POHA House to serve up revolutionary co-space in Essen

By Lea Hermanns

POHA House is delighted to announce that it will open its next revolutionary co-space in the German city of Essen. This is the next step in our mission to bring together people and businesses in comfortable, optimised and sustainable spaces that inspire, maximise potential and simply make life better.

The property we’ve purchased in Essen is a listed building full of character that’s located in the upcoming area of Pferdemarkt. Our hope is that POHA House Essen will help to accelerate the neighbourhood’s regeneration and encourage other businesses, old and new, to invest in Pferdemarkt too.

Specifically, POHA House Essen will feature 81 long-term private studios and shared apartments, seven homely short-stay flats, 56 flexible work spaces, lots of welcoming community spaces, a high-quality gym and a café for residents and the general public.

Yianni Tsitouras, chief executive of POHA House, says, “Pferdemarkt is the perfect location for POHA House Essen. It’s very close to the university, so we’d expect students, graduates and staff, to use it. It offers easy access to all the shops and amenities that central Essen has to offer. And Essen as a whole is the biggest city in the Ruhr region, is well-known for hosting lots of conferences, and has a growing creative and tech community, which are the primary people we expect to use POHA House.”

Also welcoming the launch of our newest POHA House is Oliver Kern, head of the AWO Essen, the work welfare organisation that previously owned the building in Pferdemarkt. He says, “What I particularly like about POHA House is that they will bring a new way of living to Essen and the Ruhr area. I’m positive this exciting project will benefit local people and help to draw visitors to the city, and particularly to the upcoming Pferdemarkt area.”

On top of purchasing our new property in Essen, we’re also very happy to report that we will be expanding our core team in the near future. Currently, we’re putting everything in place to recruit four new full-time employees who will deliver POHA House Essen and future POHA Houses in Germany and across Europe.
