So who to turn to for the best things to do in Münster you might wonder? We are POHA House. We offer effortless living right next to the central train station and, more importantly, your community experience is managed by our Community Management Team, (big shoutout to Sofia, who has personally provided a lot of tips that you will see in this list!). Our goal is to offer our residents the key to the best experience in Münster, and we want to share that with you!

Having said that,  here is our list of must-sees so you don’t miss any of the main attractions whether you are planning to visit or move to the city, we’ve got you!

Discover Münster by bike!

Did you know Münster is considered a cycling city? According to Stadt Münster, it is the favourite means of transport with 400,000 bicycles for every 310,000 inhabitants!

Furthermore, there are 4,500 kilometers of signposted cycle paths that will be your guide along the city, which is also mostly flat, so you can enjoy the experience with no hassle.

The Munster City Museum

If you love museums and topics like history, archaeology and art, you are in for a treat. The Munster city museum located in Salzstraße has one of the largest historical displays in the whole country.

A classic painting is blurred in the background. The first floor of the museum is very different from the traditional museum since it combines stores together with the museum store, they work under the “art and commerce” motto, the top floors is where all the paintings, artifacts and more are located, showcasing different aspects of the city history with extra exhibitions that are guaranteed to leave you wanting more.

Fun fact: this museum is located in an old listed building which used to be a department store!

The Harbour

Modern architecture and red brick buildings lining the waterfront promenade of the Münster harbor (Hafen) in Germany on a bright, sunny day.In the need of some sun and a nice place to sit and enjoy a nice view of the water? The harbour is just what you are looking for. This place loved by locals and tourists alike, is a centre of reunion to enjoy the gastronomy, culture and special events offered in the promenade.

Our top recommendation here? Cafe Med located right in the Hafen, you are guaranteed to enjoy some authentic Italian food and, if you happen to be a POHA Resident, you get an extra discount too!

Located where the city walls used to be, it has become one of the favourite places for locals to ride their bikes or go for a jog, with trees all around you can escape the city life for a moment.

Not only is this place perfect for cycling and jogging, but also if you are a flea market lover, the Halle Münsterland Exhibition and Congress Centre organises a big flea market in the Promenade four times a year in which you can find items from vintage clothing to art, there is something for every taste.

Explore the Old Town.

Going for a walk in the city centre has to be one of the top things to do in the city, immersing yourself in the picturesque buildings, looking at the astronomical clock,  walking around the cobblestone streets and maybe sitting in a cafe to enjoy a very cosy afternoon.

St. Pauls Cathedral is also located there. The beautifully constructed cathedral was founded in 805 and you can go in for free, however, in case you want to know more about its extensive history and art, the cathedral also offers guided tours once a day that only cost 3€.

Another great sight in the city centre is Prinzipalmarkt.

The historic Gothic architecture of the Münster City Hall (Rathaus) and the adjacent late Renaissance buildings, illuminated at dusk in the city center of Münster, Germany.

Considered one of the most beautiful squares in Germany and the center of life in Münster, is one of the top recommendations and favourite places in the city to visit. In the market square you can find the Historical City Hall of Münster, one of the most emblematic buildings in the city in which the  Peace Hall is located, where the Peace of Westphalia was signed.

Besides enjoying the architecture, the surrounding streets are full of cute shops that are also worth checking out!

Coming in winter time? Münster has beautiful Christmas markets! You can find some in the city centre and are definitely worth the visit to experience a cosy and fun Christmas atmosphere.
